opioid

Opioids are drugs or substances that act on opioid receptors in the brain, spinal cord, and other parts of the body. They occur naturally (such as morphine and codeine) or are produced synthetically (such as fentanyl and tramadol). They are used to relieve severe pain, but they can cause addiction and side effects. Kratom acts on the same receptors, which explains its analgesic and relaxing effects; however, its mechanism of action is different. It is not classified as an opioid, and its use does not pose the same risks of addiction when taken in the correct dosage.
